Heritage Makers Client Testimonial

July 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I got my book a few weeks back.  This book is a series of 3 bedtimes stories my husband used to tell our kids when they were little.  Stories that he used to come up with on the spot.  Through the years they were never forgotten.  The kids encouraged him to write them down.  So I decided to publish them with Heritage Makers.

What a joy it was to share it with our daughter who is due in a few months with our first grand child.  The book was dedicated to our children and grandchildren…it has stories, and information about Poppa and some fun things to do inside.  I translated some of the work in Italian so the grandkids can learn the language of their grandmomma.  My daughter cried when she read them over… remembering fondly how her daddy used to tuck her and her big brother into their beds and tell them these sweet stories.

Thank you so much for making this site available…it has been a thrill for me to use it not once but twice.  My sister and I put together a heritage book of our ancestors.  Full of stories and recipes that we were proud to pass on last Christmas to our children and family members.  Both our Dad and Mom, cried when they saw all the photos and the stories retold.  It was a wonderful memorable Christmas to say the least!

I love the simple program and the amazing artwork.  It has been a pleasure and I’m sure with the grandbabies coming…we’ll be putting together many more wonderful books with Heritage Makers!

I wanted to say thank you for your help.  Everytime I needed you, you were right there with all the assistance I needed – and what a pleasure it was to speak with you and work with you.

This is a great place to make memories stay alive!

Sincerely,
S. Hoggard

Story Writing Tips

June 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Finding your story:
Starting your story is not always easy. And sometimes realizing your story can be even harder. First remember that everyone has a story. Your story can be about a vacation to Europe, camping in the mountains, your high school friends and activities, when you met your husband, when you found out you were pregnant, and on and on. Really, the stories are endless.

Sit down and write:
To get ideas flowing for your next story, just sit down and write. Those five minute exercises you used to do in grade school help a lot. Either at your computer or in a comfortable chair with a notepad and pen, write without lifting the pen for five minutes. You will be surprised by what comes to your mind. Then just take the ideas you get from your five minute exercise and begin expanding on your stories.

Look at pictures:
Another great way to find your stories is to go through your photos. As you look at pictures of you learning to ride a bike or playing kick ball with your friends, you will remember all sorts of moments that would be great in a story.

Remember and write it down:
The best way to start a story is to just remember and we are remembering all the time. The key is to have those memories with us when we’re ready to write the story. So, when you’re cooking dinner and suddenly remember how your mom used to dance around the kitchen while making family meals, jot the memory down on a notepad. When you’re tucking your child in at night and remember the stories your dad used to tell you, before you slip off to sleep, write it down.

Happy Storybooking!
